Running Hydration Kits: For Walkers and runners
These packs are a favorite amongst all types of sportsmen. They allow athletes to bring water and consume as they exercise. A hydration bag is a pack that holds a bladder, or reservoir, of water. The bladder has a hose attached to it that leads from the backpack to the athlete’s mouth. A bite valve is located at the other end of the bag. It allows the athlete to use only his mouth to begin and stop water flow. Read more now on a review by Josephine Seale of the best hydration packs for hiking and outdoor adventures
It was mountain bikers who first adopted hydration pack technology. They could drink their drinks without stopping and did not have to remove their grips from the handlebars. Racers who were equipped with hydration bags had an advantage in traditional water wars, since they did not have to stop. Soon, the concept took off. Hydration packs are now used in nearly all sports where participants must carry water. Hydration packs, which are essential equipment for participants of endurance sports such as cross-country skiing and hiking, have been adopted by many.
Evidently, the ability of runners to consume fluids without stopping gives them an advantage over other competitors. However, the majority of hydration packs come in backpack styles which aren’t very convenient for people who want to be on their feet. Weight carried by the shoulders puts stress on the lower spine, even with the waist and chest straps. Even though runners may only carry a small amount water with them, they don’t need all of the gear and equipment other athletes might require. It follows that most hydration bags are not well-suited to walkers or runners. But the benefits they provide remain attractive.
Running hydro packs specifically cater for athletes who are on their toes. There are two types of hydro packs: waist and side packs. These allow for weight to rest at your center of gravity. It is more efficient, as it does not place additional pressure on the lower spine. The two most common types are the sidepack and the fanny pack/bum bag. The side bags hold water to either side, so that the runner can carry weights on their hips. The water is typically held in a bum bag or fannypack, while the weight of the bag rests on the upper buttocks.
